Create a Contract

Overview

This guide provides a comprehensive breakdown of managing rights, contracts, and payees within the Revelator platform. It explains how to efficiently handle Master and YouTube Channel/Video rights, create and manage digital contracts, and set up payees for royalty distribution. The guide also covers advanced concepts like creating complex business logic with multiple terms and using filters to streamline contract management.


Prerequisites

Before managing a contract, ensure that you have the following:

  • Access to the Revelator platform with necessary permissions.

  • Basic understanding of music rights and royalty distribution.

  • Contract and payee management access.


How It Works: Step by Step

Creating a New Contract

  • Navigate to the Contracts section and click Create New.

  • Select Recorded Music Revenue

  • Complete the contract details, including:

    • Contract Name

    • Contract Status (Active/Inactive)

    • Start and End DateSelect no end date if the contract is in perpetuity

Selecting Assets and Licensors

  • In the Select Assets step, choose the Source of the asset from the dropdown menu:

    • Options include Artist and Label.

  • Once the source is selected, pick the Licensor from the list of available licensors associated with that source.

  • Next, specify the assets to include in the contract:

    • You can select All current & future assets except those on asset-specific contracts, or manually select Only some specific assets.

  • To view the available assets, click on the dropdown and select from releases, tracks, or videos.

  • Click Confirm Selection after choosing the desired assets.

Adding Terms

  • In the Add Terms step, click Add Term to open the term creation dialog.

  • Enter the Payout Rate (%) for the term.

  • Define the following criteria for the term:

    • Services: Choose whether the term applies to All, All except, or Only for specified services.

    • Countries: Choose between Worldwide, All except, or Only for selected countries.

    • Formats: Specify if the term applies to All or only Some formats.

    • Channels: Determine whether the term covers All or specific channels.

  • To create complex business logic, add multiple terms with varying payout rates and criteria:

    • For example, set a global rate of 50% but add a specific term for streaming services in Europe with a different rate.

    • You can layer terms to account for different scenarios, regions, services, or distribution methods.

  • Click Add Term to save each entry.

Adding Existing Payees to a Contract

  • The Payee section allows users to create and manage payees for royalty distribution.

  • Navigate to the Payees section and click Add Payee.

  • Select existing Payee and add their share %. You can add one or more payees as long as the total share between them equals 100%.

  • If you don't have an existing payee, you can create a new payee a following the steps below

Creating and Adding a New Payee to a Contract

  • Navigate to the Payees section and click Create Payee.

  • Click on Select Payee

  • Click Create and Add New Payee.

  • Fill out the payee details:

    • Type: Choose between Company or Individual.

    • Payee Name and Pay To Name.

    • Tax ID and VAT Number.

    • Vendor ID if applicable.

  • Define the payment details:

    • Payment Method: Select from available methods.

    • Starting Balance: Set a balance for the payee.

    • Minimum Payment Threshold: Specify a minimum payout amount.

  • Set up Statements and Portal Access:

    • Enter the payee email for statement access.

    • Enable the Payee Portal if needed.

    • Choose the currency for statement summaries.

  • Click Create Payee to finalize the setup.


Expected Outcomes

  • Expected Outcome: The contract appears in the list with the specified details, terms, and payees.

  • Check that the contract appears in the Contracts list with the correct status and details.

  • Ensure that the contract includes all intended assets and licensors.

  • Verify the accuracy of each term and its respective criteria.

  • Check that the payout rates and business logic correctly reflect the desired distribution model.

  • The payee should be listed in the Payees section with accurate details and settings.
